There is an Chinese proverb that says, “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now”.
This saying can be applied to our approach to health, fitness and life. Some of you may already have a very solid and effective routine that you’ve been working on since you were in high school or earlier. Others might not have started their fitness routine until a little later in life, or not at all. The saying above states that it is never too late to start something new, especially when it comes to focusing on your health.
So when you are contemplating on whether or not you are too old to start a program, or too out of shape to try something new, you are given permission to take that next step. Plant that tree and start to see the beautiful things that come about that change.
These small action steps can make a huge impact on you. If you are looking to take the next step in your health but have no idea where to start, here are 3 action items that you can take today. Let me know how it goes.
Take 5 minutes of your day to focus on how you are breathing. Observe what you are experiencing and see if you can help your body oxygenate by taking in some deeper breaths. This will be important to reduce anxiety and improve focus.
Set aside four 5 minute breaks throughout the day and go for a walk. This will improve blood flow, improve productivity, and help energize you especially when hitting that 2:55pm workday slump.
Eat a vegetable. Easier said than done (since it’s summer time, go for a summer green like lettuce or spinach). This will provide you vital nutrients that are important for overall health and function. The great thing is that there is more to vegetables than just salads. (Are you working in Manhattan? Try Dig Inn, they’re delicious).
