Back in 2016 I tore my meniscus in a workout. One of the common treatments or a torn knee meniscus is surgery and physical therapy. The only procedure I’ve ever had growing up was getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I didn’t want to get under the knife and the research show that surgical intervention was NO better than conservative care.
I didn’t have the time nor the patience to go through a procedure like that. I had a plan to get rid of the knee pain and be stronger than ever. Within a year knee pain was a thing of the past.
My wife tore her shoulder (rotator cuff and labrum) back when she was swimming competitively. She had it repaired and it took over a year for her to get back to competing. The last year of Kaitie’s career was met with a re-tear of her left shoulder. Her surgeon was adamant about going under the knife again, but she refused to go through another bout of painful surgery and rehabiltiation. The science showed (just like knee surgery) surgery wasn’t any better than conservative care.
Fast forward 9 years, and Kaitie didn’t go through that second surgery. We worked on her strength, flexibility and more. She’s taken up new activities such as boxing and tennis without issues.
Surgery is time consuming, expensive, and painful. We don’t have time for that. The good news is that there is a way to avoid surgery and get off pain medications.
If you want to learn how that can be possible, let’s talk.
